Thomas Elness '16, originally from Windom, Minnesota, majored in communication studies/business at Augustana. He received the Covenant Award for Community for the 2014-15 academic year.
Q. Tell us about your journey after graduating from Augustana — your career path (what are you doing now), family, education (graduate school), travel, etc.
A. I'm enjoying my role as an admission counselor at Augustana University. I enjoy sharing the Augie student with students and their families who are considering joining this community of people
Q. Favorite class or favorite professor at Augustana, and why?
A. So many it's impossible to choose. Dr. Nesiba (Economics), Dr. Blank-Libra (English and journalism), Dr. Bart (2x) (Communications) and Dr. Nitz (Communications) were great to me.
Q. What were you involved in that prepared you for the present and future?
A. I enjoyed writing for the Mirror, being involved with the Augustana Student Association, the Augie Dems, It's on Us, and all the things that Augie does well.
Q. Best Augie memory?
A. Meeting my fiancée, Haley, in Bergsaker Hall.
Q. If you could offer an Augustana student some advice, what would you say?
A. Take advantage of your investment of time, resources, and energy. Make meaningful connections and put in the work, including, but not limited to, the classroom.
