Literature search

The first step in compliance and research projects is conducting a thorough background literature search through examination of site forms, books, journal articles, historic maps, and resource management reports. Minimally this involves consulting the State Historic Preservation Office or Office of the State Archeologist to acquire copies of previously recorded surveys, sites and reports relevant to a project area. Often the search is extended to local colleges, universities, historical societies, and other cultural resource management firms.
