Hands-On Learning

Practice what you learn.

“I can’t believe I did that!” “This class was the most fun I’ve ever had.” So say students who take classes in the HPER department. From hiking to biking to swimming to tennis to archery, we serve not only our majors, but the entire campus community with classes that promote healthier lifestyles.

Our students practice what they learn in rigorous practicum situations that let them create experiments and test their hypotheses with volunteers from across campus. We’re proud to teach the problem-solving skills that give liberal arts majors an advantage in their post-college careers. And since coaches of our successful varsity athletic teams teach many of our classes, students benefit from their practical experience, as well.

Plus, some of the internships we require for each major can and are done on campus. Students serve as personal trainers to volunteer faculty members or as athletic training students for the Viking athletic program. You will apply what you learn to the real lives of real clients.
