Hands-On Learning

Dr. Mullin

Communication skills are essential to success in today’s world, whether you intend to be an academic, a public servant, or a business leader. The history department’s requirement that every one of our graduates excel at writing and public speaking is valued by employers throughout the country.

Students in our program write formal papers for every class in every year of their work here. A comprehensive senior thesis is required of every major. As a result:

  • Our students regularly present their work at conferences around the region, from the Northern Great Plains History Conference to the Dakota Conference and more.
  • Our students present papers regularly at the regional meeting of the national history honor society, Phi Alpha Theta.

But the study of history at Augustana extends beyond the walls of the classroom and library!
