Translation

Translation services are offered in a number of languages. At present, Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish are available. The Institute plans to broaden its offerings in the near future. Charges for translations depend on a variety of factors, such as language, degree of difficulty, and legibility of the original document. For standard translations in a language using the printed English alphabet, the Institute charges 15 cents per word in the source language. More work-intensive translations may be charged by the hour. For the sake of maintaining quality, the Institute does not accept translation projects that put the translator under unusual time pressure. The minimum charge for a translation is $30.

Foreign transcript evaluations are certified by the Director of International Programs at Augustana College. The Institute charges $150 for the evaluation of a single transcript from a foreign country.

Interpretation

Interpretation--including oral and simultaneous translation--services are offered with certain restrictions.

Tutoring for Area Students

Tutoring is available through the Institute for area high school and middle school students.  In addition to Language Institute staff, Augustana College language majors and advanced-level language students occasionally serve as tutors.

Travel Preparation

We provide specialized language preparation for groups and individuals planning to travel abroad.

Travel Opportunities

The Institute offers occasional non-credit travel opportunities for small groups.

Individualized Language Instruction

The Institute can arrange personalized language instruction for 1 to 5 participants.
