Summer Research Opportunities
A goal of the physics department is for all majors to have a meaningful research experience at some point during their studies at Augustana. Often times this is accomplished during the summer. While the department offers many opportunities, we also encourage qualified students to take advantage of the programs available around the country. Below are some links to resources for helping students locate research experiences.
On Campus: Applications for physics summer research positions are due in February each year. Watch your email for reminders.
Off Campus Resources: Many of these competitive applications require letters of reference and other materials. Students are advised to begin looking at these applications in December or early January.
- The National Science Foundation maintains a searchable database of Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) Programs around the country.
- The Nucleus is a resource for undergraduates in physics and astronomy. It has a list of summer job opportunities.
- NASA has an undergraduate student research program at many of its centers.
- Recent students have found many internships around the area. Please speak with Dr. Alton for more information.
