Daily Campus Safety Log
According to federal law, an institution may withhold any of the required fields of entry, i.e. the nature, date, time, location and/or disposition if any of the following conditions apply:
- The disclosure is prohibited by law
- If disclosure would jeopardize the confidentiality of the victim
- If disclosure would jeopardize an ongoing criminal investigation or the safety of an individual
- If disclosure would cause a suspect to flee or evade detection
- If disclosure would result in the destruction of evidence
Below are incidents that occurred within the last two weeks.
Thursday, May 2, 2013
- 12:26 PM - Gilbert Science Center, 2407 S. Summit Avenue. Medical Emergency. Officer responded to a report of a medical emergency and took necessary action. Subject was transported by ambulance to hospital emergency room for treatment. Incident report completed.
- 3:30 PM - Elmen Center Parking Lot, 2505 S. Grange Avenue. Officer responded to a report of a hit and run accident in a campus parking lot. Damage to vehicle documented and security camera footage reviewed for evidence. Incident report completed.
Friday, May 3, 2013
- 2:50 PM - Solberg Parking Lot, 2312 S. Grange Avenue. Theft. Student presented at Campus Safety to file a report of personal property being stolen from her vehicle. Several hundred dollars of personal electronics and other property were removed from an unlocked vehicle. SFPD responded and initated investigation. Incident report completed.
- 6:50 PM - Vicinity of 32nd and Grange Avenue. Vandalism to Vehicle. Student contacted Campus Safety to report his vehicle had been "keyed" while parked on a public street. Vehicle was unavailable for damage survey. Incident report initiated. Investigation continued until reporting party and vehicle return to campus.

- 12:40 AM - 1929 S. Menlo Avenue. Noise Disturbance, Party. Officers observed SFPD breaking up party of 75+ students and monitored their return to campus. Incident report completed.
- 7:45 PM - Bergsaker Hall Parking Lot, 1109 W. 33rd Street. Hit and Run Motor Vehicle Accident. Student presented at Campus Safety office to file a report of damage to his vehicle while parked in dormitory parking lot. Incident report completed.
- 10:15 PM - Mikkelson Library, 2117 S. Summit Avenue. Medical Assist. Officers responded to a report of an injury on exterior stairway near the library. Injury was assessed as a sprained ankle and first aid administered. Victim declined further medical treatment. Incident report completed.

- 12:31 AM - Tuve Hall, 1109 West 28th Street. Possible Narcotics Violation. Officers responded to a report of a marijuana odor in residence hall. Witnesses were interviewed and incident report completed.

- 10:10 AM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue. Motor Vehicle Accident. Officer responded to a report of a vehicle accident in a dormitory parking lot. Investigation indicated that a vehicle slipped out of gear and struck the second vehicle. Incident report completed.
- 1:50 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue. Bicycle Theft. Students presented at Campus Safety to report the theft of two bicycles from dormitory bike rack. The bicycles were not locked at the time of the theft. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

- 8:27 AM - Elmen Center, 2505 S. Grange Avenue. Bicycle Theft. Student presented at Campus Safety to file a late report of a stolen bicycle. Theft is believed to have occured the previous evening from a bicycle rack. Bicycle was not locked at the time of the theft. Security camera video reviewed and identified a possible suspect. Incident report completed and investigation continues.
- 10:10 AM - Stavig Hall, 1101 W. 28th Street. Trespassing. Officer responded to a report of a trespassing subject being sighted on campus. Officer made contact and confirmed identity of trespasser. SFPD responded and issued warning against further violations of trespass notice. Incident report completed.
- 2:45 PM - Vicinity of 30th Street and Grange Avenue. Suspicious Person. Officer observed a male subject behaving as if under the influence of an intoxicant. Subject appeared to attempt to make contact with small children when officer intervened. SFPD responded and subject left the area on foot. Incident report completed.
- 4:55 PM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd Street. Narcotics Violation. Officer responded to a report of an on-campus narcotics violation and met with SFPD. Two subjects arrested for possession of marijuana and transported to the Minnehaha County Jail. Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities.

- 11:10 PM - Solberg Hall, 2312 S. Grange Avenue. Drunkenness. Officers responded to a report of an unresponsive intoxicated subject in a dormitory. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue and Rural Metro Ambulance also responded. Subject was transported to a hospital emergency room for treatment and later transferred to the Detoxification Unit. Subject was cited for underage consumption and an incident report was completed and forwarded to College authorities.

- 8:48 AM - Summit Apartments, 2420 S. Summit Avenue. Welfare Check. Officer responded to a request for a student welfare check. Student was located safe and well. Incident report completed.

- 12:45 AM - Stavig Hall, 1101 W. 28th Street. Suspcious Men. Officer responded to a report of two unidentified male subjects approaching females and verbally harassing them. Subjects had fled the scene prior to officer's arrival. A search of the area was conducted without result. Incident report completed.
- 1:30 AM - Morrison Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue. Trespassing. Officer responded to a report of an unidentified subject on the Commons roof throwing rocks at passersby. Subject jumped off the roof and fled on foot as officer gained access to the roof. Incident report completed.
- 1:43 AM - Bergsaker Hall, 1110 W. 33rd St. Disorderly Conduct / Underage Consumption. Officer responded to a request for assistance from Residence Life. Intoxicated subject returned to dormitory after attending a house party and began creating a disturbance. Subject was calmed and began cooperating with Residence Life. Incident report completed and forwarded to College authorities.

- 7:00 PM - Morrsion Commons, 2112 S. Grange Avenue. Book Theft / Disorderly Conduct. Student presented to Campus Safety to report theft of books. A second student arrived and a disturbance commenced. Subjects were calmed and interviewed. Incident report completed and investigation continues.

- 8:20 AM - Edith Mortenson Center, 2112 S. Grange Avenue. Vandalism. Officers were dispatched to a report of vandalism done to the outside of the EMC building. Officers photographed the damage and completed an incident report.
- 2:45 PM - Global Education House, 2001 S. Norton Avenue. Trespassing. Officers investigated a complaint regarding a male subject repeatedly walking onto campus and attempting to make unwanted contact with a student. Incident report completed and BOLO issued to all officers.

- 1:25 PM - Global Education House, 2001 S. Norton Avenue. Trespassing. Officers responded to a report of trespassing subject returning to College property. Officers were able to make contact, identified subject and issued a verbal warning not to return to campus. Subject was compliant and left College property. Incident report completed.
