My name is Alaina Heiskary and I am originally from Lino Lakes, Minn.  I am a Senior Sociology major, with a religion minor. Over the years, I have learned a lot from comparing cultural patterns in the context to making time for fun with friends. Michael SeeleyFriday, Sept. 14, 2012
Michael Seeley

At an early age, Michael Seeley found himself devouring books about the past. Then he started writing his own. His first novel, The Faith, is the opening to a trilogy about revolution and regicide. His second novel, Duty, asks what might have happened if Napoleon had won the Battle of Waterloo. His collected short fiction, Men of Eagles, offers new perspectives on the wars of the Napoleonic Age. Michael has found inspiration from the winding alleyways of Paris, the tall forests of Norway, and the impressive Acropolis of Athens.

Brooke DeJong

My name is Brooke DeJong and I am a senior Religion and German major and Ancient Languages minor from Eden Prairie, Minn. I started my Augustana career as a Biology major. My love of great questions, possibility of discovery and interconnectedness of life is what drew me to Biology, and what further drew me to Theoology and Languages. Furthermore, Biology, language and Religion provide fascinating accounts of life and the human experience. I have continued to chase this spark throughout my time at Augustana and the rest of my life. After I leave Augustana, I plan to pursue my Mastors of Divinity.

Ben Winkler

My name is ben Winkler. I am a Music Major in my final semester at Augie. I will end my studies here with a trip with the Augie Choir to Europe this January. My plans are to go to an ELCA seminary next year to pursue a Master of Divinity with the goal of Ordained Ministry. I have discovered a love of taking the old and breathing in new life. The black ink of music and of the Bible do little until they are given room to live and breathe. I am an enthusiast of both Opera and Theology because they have more in common than they have differences. I never get bored listening to different interpretations of either because there is something so miraculous about what they can do interpretation after interpretation, No performance is ever the same, no performance is without its flaws — within its flaws, is an invitation to try again and again. This is why I study music and this is only part of why I seek to be a pastor.

Three years pass fast surrounded by good friends, great professors, and lots of laughs! At Augie, I’ve been a part of Outreach Ministries, joined the Rugby Club, gotten fit, tutored English at the Writing Center, travelled to Argentina, worked with dining services, and fallen asleep in the Humanities building. Sometimes I carry hot cocoa to class in a mug to keep my hands warm. Sometimes I get lost in the GSC. Though I was born in Arizona, my hometown is St. Peter, Minnesota where I grew up with a brother and sister. I double major in English and Spanish with hopes to become a writer and dreams of traveling through Latin America.
