Ole the Viking

Augustana College mascot Ole the Viking at a football game

At Augustana we have always been proud of our Scandinavian roots, our traditions, and our student-athletes. This spirit, this Nordic pride, is personified in our mascot, Ole the Viking.

Ole the Viking made his first appearance as Augustana’s official mascot in 1939. The 6-foot, 200-pound clay warrior soon became a familiar sight at Augustana athletic events and the Viking Days parades.

While Ole has remained the symbol of Augustana athletics, Augie Doggie came on the scene in the 1980s as the mascot. In the early 2000s, Augie Doggie was retired.

Unveiled on Feb. 20, 2009, before the Viking men's basketball game, the now 7-foot Viking mascot personifies school spirit at Augustana. Ole the Viking's flowing Nordic locks and steely gaze bring the pride of the home team to life like nothing else can!
