Course Descriptions and Requirements
Official course descriptions and requirements for the physics major are available in the Undergraduate Catalog.
Currently, we offer the following upper level physics courses:
- Intermediate and Advanced Laboratory
- Biological Physics
- Computational Physics
- Analytical Mechanics
- Statistical and Thermal Physics
- Electromagnetic Theory
- Quantum Mechanics
- Senior Thesis and Independent Study options.
Intermediate Laboratory, Advanced Laboratory, Modern Physics, and Computational Physics are taught every year. We anticipate offering the remaining courses every other year.
Prerequisites for dual-degree engineering programs of study at affiliated schools are listed here. All dual-degree programs require that the student complete the general education requirements of Augustana University. A major must also be completed at Augustana, but it is common for many departments to allow one or more courses to be transferred back from the engineering school in order to complete major requirements.
With careful, personalized academic advising, these courses can be configured to provide the student with strong pre-engineering coursework, a rigorous preparation for graduate study in physics or a related scientific discipline, teaching physics, or pre-professional training for a diverse range of careers in such fields as medicine, finance, journalism, or law. Our alumni are constantly coming up with new ways of using their physics education.
