‘Big, Bad Beethoven’ Coming to the Washington Pavilion - First Event in Augustana Performing Arts Series
Sunday, November 16 marks the first event of the Augustana Performing Arts Series '08-'09. The Augustana College & Community Orchestra presents "Big Bad Beethoven" at the Washington Pavilion, downtown Sioux Falls.
SIOUX FALLS - The Augustana College and Community Orchestra performs its first program of the season on Sunday, November 16, in the Great Hall at the Washington Pavilion in downtown Sioux Falls.
The program begins at 3:00 p.m. and is entitled, “Big, Bad, Beethoven.” Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for students and seniors, and free for Augustana students and faculty.
Afflicted with a troubled youth and an on-going battle with hearing loss, Beethoven’s music is an affirmation of life. The orchestra will perform Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5. The opening motif of this famous symphony was used as Morse code for “Victory” (dot-dot-dot-dash) during WW II.
The concert will feature Christian Zamora and Justyna Lutow. Both are members of the Augustana String Quartet and professional musicians with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Christopher Stanichar, the new Director of Orchestras at Augustana, is the conductor.
The Augustana College and Community Orchestra features more than 80 student and community members with violin, viola, and cello sections led by the Augustana String Quartet.
