Third Sunday Archeology Program Features Time Team America
SIOUX FALLS – Dr. Adrien Hannus, director of Augustana’s Archeology Laboratory, speaks about Time Team America at the Third Sunday Archeology presentation at 2:00 p.m. January 18 at Gilbert Science Center, room 100.
“Time Team America: A New Archeological TV Series” is the title of Dr. Hannus’ illustrated talk. The concept of Time Team America, a new television series being produced by Oregon Public Broadcasting, will be discussed.
The proposed series is modeled after the long running, extremely popular British Time Team production. Five, one-hour shows in which Dr. Hannus participated were filmed across the United States during the 2008 summer season. Three historic localities were visited: Fort Raleigh (The Lost Colony), New Philadelphia, and Fort James in South Dakota.
Filming was also conducted at two prehistoric sites: Range Creek and the Topper site. The series producers use public entertainment as a format to promote the rich educational value of archeology.
Sunday’s program is funded by Augustana’s Archeology Laboratory and the Sioux Falls chapter of the South Dakota Archaeological Society. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Gilbert Science Center is located at the corner of 33rd Street and Summit Avenue.
