SIOUX FALLS - Augustana alumnus Lars Gjerde returns to South Dakota to perform a program of solo organ music at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, on Saturday, February 7, at 7:00 p.m. In addition to performing in Sioux Falls, Mr. Gjerde will present his program at the American Lutheran Church in Huron on Sunday, February 8, at 1:00 p.m.

Mr. Gjerde, a native of Aure, Norway, is a doctoral student in organ performance and church music at the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he received his Master’s of Music degree in October, 2007. A graduate of both the Edvard Grieg Academy of Music in Norway and of Augustana (2002), Mr. Gjerde is returning to the Midwest this February to play a varied and ambitious program of organ music, both lyrical and virtuosic. Musical selections will cover several centuries of musical tradition and will include works by Bach, Kerll, F. Couperin, Messiaen, Litaize, and Dupré.

Mr. Gjerde has performed and participated in master classes in Norway, Sweden, Italy, Ireland, and throughout the United States, appearing frequently in South Dakota . While a student at Augustana, where he also served as chapel organist, he was the second national winner in the Music Teachers’ National Association Collegiate Organ Competition and received honorable mention in the Augustana/Reuters Organ Competition in Denver, Colorado.

He had the privilege of appearing numerous times in various South Dakota churches and keeps returning to play for the Sioux Falls audience. He joined the Choirboys of Augustana College to release the CD “In the Bleak Midwinter” as a fund-raising effort for Lutheran World Relief in 2001, a successful project which received media attention throughout South Dakota.

There is no charge for admission to the recital. A free-will offering will be received. The program is sponsored by Augustana and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, located at 909 W. 33rd Street. For more information on Mr. Gjerde, please visit www.larsgjerde.com.
