SIOUX FALLS - Last spring, the Eide/Dalrymple Gallery at Augustana College received 154 original Polaroid photographs and gelatin silver prints created by renowned artist Andy Warhol.
Approximately 60 of the photographs will be exhibited for the first time as a part of the “Highlights from the Carl Grupp Permanent Art Collection” exhibition, March 6 through April 19, 2009. The gallery reception will be March 6 at 7:00 p.m.
The Eide/Dalrymple Gallery cares for a permanent collection of almost 3,500 works of art that are periodically exhibited. The upcoming exhibition will also include artwork by Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, Kathe Kollwitz and others.
The gift of Warhol’s photographs was made through the Andy Warhol Photographic Legacy Program in honor of the Warhol Foundation’s 20th anniversary. The aim of the Photographic Legacy Program is to provide greater access to Warhol’s artwork and process, and to enable a wide range of people from communities across the country to view and study this important yet relatively unknown body of Warhol’s work.
The Eide/Dalrymple Gallery is one of 183 college and university art museums across the United States selected to participate in this program and is the only institution from South Dakota and the surrounding region to be chosen.
