Student Soloists Featured in Concerto-Aria Concert
SIOUX FALLS – The 2009 Concerto-Aria Concert will be held Saturday, May 9 at 8:00 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Sioux Falls.
The four participating students were selected from auditions held in February. These musicians perform classical repertoire for solo instrument or voice and orchestra. Soloists will be accompanied by the Augustana College and Community Orchestra.
In addition, the Orchestra will perform Bernstein's West Side Story selections and an original work by conductor Dr. Christopher Stanichar entitled Sunflowers. Dr. Stanichar is an assistant professor of music at Augustana
The featured student soloists are Erc Wassenaar, tenor, Sioux Falls; Victor Yip, piano, Hong Kong, China; Kristen Meidinger, soprano, Aurora, SD; and Christopher Haak, bassoon, Urbandale, IA.
Wassenaar is a junior majoring in music. He is the son of Marge and Terry Wassenaar.
Yip is a sophomore majoring in music.
Meidinger is a freshman majoring in music. She is the daughter of Kathy Jo and Wayne Meidinger.
Haak is a sophomore majoring in Music Education. He is the son of Tammi and Larry Haak.
The evening of concertos and arias is free to the public. First Congregational Church is located at the corner of 11th Street and Dakota Avenue.
