Summer Music Camp Features Grand Finale this Evening
SIOUX FALLS – With a record enrollment of 150 student musicians in grades seven thru 12, Augustana’s 14th annual Summer Music Camp concludes Friday, June 19, with a Grand Finale concert of the large ensembles in the Elmen Center.
As in past years, a majority of the participants in the week-long camp come from South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska. However, the 2009 camp has more of a national flavor with students representing Arizona, New Mexico, Kansas, Colorado, Kentucky, and Georgia.
Students will spend the week studying from Augustana Music Department faculty. They will be members of the summer camp band, choir, and/or orchestra. In addition, these students will receive two private lessons. Students will also be engaged in enrichment classes including jazz ensembles, vocal and instrumental chamber ensembles, show choir, piano ensemble, electronic music classes, conducting and musical theatre, and much more.
The camp concludes with solo and chamber ensembles performing on Thursday, June 18, at 4:30 and 6:45 p.m. in Kresge Recital Hall. The Grand Finale concert of the large ensembles will be held on Friday, June 19, at 7:00 p.m. in the Elmen Center.
Other events open to the public include a Counselor and Faculty Recital on Monday, June 15, at 7:30 p.m. and the Sioux Falls Municipal Band in concert on Wednesday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. Both of these performances will be held in Kresge Recital Hall in the Humanities Building on the campus of Augustana.
All camp performances are open to the public with free admission.
