Huether Tennis Centre to be Dedicated
SIOUX FALLS - Augustana College will dedicate its new on-campus tennis complex, located at 33rd Street and Grange Avenue, on Tuesday, October 6. The dedication ceremony, which is open to the public, begins at 4:30 p.m.
Scheduled speakers include Augustana President Rob Oliver, Athletic Director Bill Gross, Board of Trustees member Becky Blue, head tennis coach Marc Kurtz and team members Dillon Karras and Brittany Gaster. Dr. Ann Pederson, Professor of Religion at Augustana, will deliver the invocation and dedication.
Also speaking will be Mike Huether. Mike and his wife, Cindy, provided the lead gift towards the project. Since December 2008, thirty-five donors have contributed $384,500 to fully fund the facility, which was built and designed by Midwest Tennis & Track of Dennison, Iowa. The project also received a grant of $32,500 from the United States Tennis Association. The new facility is 16-feet wider than the old courts and now has six championship regulation size courts. It also includes lights, bleacher seating, and an entry area with a tennis building.
"Augustana College is genuinely appreciative to the Huethers and all the other donors who stepped forward to provide this beautiful new facility a reality," Gross said. "It is a wonderful addition to our campus and continues to fulfill our commitment to provide outstanding facilities so that our student-athletes can compete at the highest levels in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference and NCAA Division II."
“This is a dream come true for our family" Mike Huether said. "With the wonderful support of some gracious donors and the unwavering partnership of Augustana, Sioux Falls has a new jewel to enjoy the great sport of tennis for years to come. Our next goal is to get as many folks as possible in Sioux Falls and Augustana utilizing this beautiful facility."
The facility will be the new home for Augustana's men's and women's tennis teams and will also serve Augustana students, staff, and the Sioux Falls community.
A welcome reception and tour of the facility will be held after the dedication ceremony.
