Augustana Theatre presents The Fantasticks!
SIOUX FALLS, SD – Augustana College Theatre presents The Fantasticks, a romantic charmer that has enchanted audiences the world over.
Performances at the Edith Mortenson Center Theatre are February 25-27 and March 4-6 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 605.274.5320 or online at www.augietickets.com.
The Fantasticks – book and lyrics by Tom Jones and music by Harvey Schmidt – follows the love story of the boy (Matt) and the girl next door (Luisa), who, forbidden by their parents to see each other, steal away. Soon enough all learn the parents were scheming with reverse psychology all along.
Directed by Dan Workman, this production’s breathtaking poetry and subtle theatrical sophistication is a timeless fable of love that is nostalgic and universal for audiences of all ages.
The New Yorker states, “relatively unchanged and still dewy as the dawn, the show hasn’t lost its appeal; it feels like a game of make believe. The Fantasticks is just the kind of teen-age love it depicts; nectar-sweet, exempt from time, and not nearly as simple as you may remember.”
Leading the cast is senior Bob Wendland (Arlington, SD) as El Gallo; junior Rachael Hoogendoorn (Sioux Falls) as Luisa; senior Will Dietzler (Fargo, ND) as Matt; junior Martha Stai (Inwood, IA) as Hucklebee; senior Jacinta Sutphin (Worden, MT) as Bellomy; senior Sonia Halbach (Devils Lake, ND) as the mute; junior Nate Hultz (Glencoe, MN) as Henry; and senior Leighland Hooks (Medford, OR) as Mortimer.
The February 25 performance is interpreted for the deaf and hard of hearing.
