Choral Celebration Features Augustana Choir and Orchestra
SIOUX FALLS, SD – The Department of Performing & Visual Arts at Augustana College announces a uniquely powerful and uplifting choral concert celebration of the Christian Mass on April 11 at 3:00 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Sioux Falls. Cost for the event is $5 for all adults and free for students K-12.
This choral celebration features the Augustana Choir and Orchestra performing Dr. Christopher Stanichar’s Mass of the Last Supper. This part of the event will be conducted by Dr. Stanichar, Assistant Professor of Music. Special guest soloists are Augustana voice instructor, Emily Lodine, and the College’s newest addition to its voice faculty, Russell Svenningsen.
The Augustana Chamber Choir, under the direction of Dr. James Johnson, Professor of Music, and accompanied on organ by Marilyn Schempp, will present one of Mozart’s earliest Missa Brevis, in G Major, written when he was only 12 years old. They will also perform the last piece Mozart wrote for church choir, the beautiful Ave verum corpus.
The concert will conclude with the Augustana Collegiate Chorale performing Robert Ray’s Gospel Mass, conducted by Jeanne Carter in her farewell concert for Augustana.
