The Department of Performing & Visual Arts at Augustana College announces a Swing Jazz concert featuring the Northlanders Jazz Band, the All-City High School Jazz Band and special guest saxophonist, Chris Vadala.

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 22, in the Kresge Recital Hall, located in the Humanities Building on the Augustana campus.

The Northlanders Jazz Band performed on the main stage at JazzFest 2009. The Northlanders was founded in 1954 as a student-run organization and, in 1965, Dr. Harold Krueger assumed leadership.

Since then, the Northlanders Jazz Band has performed for many campus and community events and has been featured in the annual Jazz on the Upper Great Plains Festival. This year, Dr. Paul Schilf began his 10th year as director of the Northlanders.

The All-City High School Jazz Band began more than 13 years ago and is open to any high school musician in Sioux Falls. This prestigious group gathers once a year for this special concert. The group is sponsored by the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at or by phone at 605.274.5320.
