The 2011 Nobel Peace Prize Forum is rapidly approaching. This year's Forum will be held on the campus of Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, March 4-5. It is entitled, "Striving for Peace: Courage to Act." Registration is open to the public and is available online.
Augustana joins Augsburg College, Concordia College (Moorhead), Luther College and St. Olaf College in celebrating the Nobel Prize for Peace granted annually by the Nobel Committee in Oslo, Norway. The program offers an incredible opportunity to celebrate community and heritage as well as a vision and hope for a more peaceful world. Best of all, it has a proven record of opening doors for students who want to do more than just "talk" about peace, justice, and human rights.
President Barack Obama, the Nobel Peace Prize Winner from 2009, has been invited to attend.
Other confirmed speakers include Shirin Ibadi, 2003 Peace Prize winner as well as the first Muslim woman and first Iranian to win the Prize; Eboo Patel of Interfaith Youth Core; Steinar Bryn, 2009 Peace Prize nominee and Project Director for the Nansen Dialog Network; Scott Hanson, Brigadier General with the U.S. Air Force and director of Iraq Training and Advisory Mission; and Alisa Gravitz, Executive Director of Green America (formerly Co-op America).
Registration and more information can be found online at www.luther.edu/peaceprize. Augustana student fees are only $25 which includes bus transportation, meals, and housing during the Forum. To alleviate concerns of missing classes, the bus will not leave the Augustana campus until after 2:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
