'Dido and Aeneas' Opera Theatre Set for March 31- April 2
Theirs is among the oldest and most tragic love stories of all time. She was queen and ruler of Carthage, the influential and powerful North African port that controlled the entire Mediterranean. He was a Trojan soldier who eventually founded Rome.
They met in the most unlikely of circumstances and their romance blossomed quickly. Not long after it started, their love story was cut short after the gods called him away to build the Roman Empire. She was left alone and heartbroken.
The iconic love story of Dido and Aeneas will come alive again as the Department of Performing and Visual Arts at Augustana College presents the fantastical, Baroque opera “Dido and Aeneas” by renowned composer Henry Purcell, March 31-April 2.
The opera will be performed by a 24-member student cast of the Augustana Opera Theatre under the direction of Dr. Lisa Grevlos. Instrumental accompaniment will be provided by Augustana’s Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Christopher Stanichar.
