Past Rapid City event:
"Higher Education Today and Updates from Augustana," Thought Leader Forum featuring Rob Oliver, president: 6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 15, the Journey Museum, located at 222 New York Street.
"The ability for today’s young people to achieve a college education is becoming more and more difficult. Plagued by a still-weak economy, the threat of rising interest rates on federal student loans, a decreased commitment to higher education by the state and federal government, and an uncertain job market, too many of today’s young people simply don’t have the support they need to make higher education a reality. That’s troubling to me – and to all of us at Augustana. Here, we realize that education is the key to building a brighter tomorrow. It’s why we work so hard to provide scholarships and grants to enable more young people to study here – to realize and achieve their true potential. For the sake of our young people, we need to start talking about this, and talking about it a lot," Oliver said.
- Community Service Day at the Black Hills Children’s Home: 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22. Fellow Rapid City-area Augustana alumni served lunch and played games with kids at the Black Hills Children’s Home.
