Date: October 29, 2012
Times: 7:30 p.m.
Location: Kresge Recital Hall
Ticket Info: Free and open to the public.
Tenor Dr. Russell Svenningsen, assistant professor of music and director of the Collegiate Chorale, and pianist Dr. Christopher Stanichar, associate professor of music and director of the Augustana Orchestra will present a recital at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 30, in Kresge Recital Hall. Kristi Stanichar will accompany on English horn.
The event is free and open to the public.
The centerpiece of the recital will be a performance of "The Raven," a musical setting by Stanichar based on Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven."
In 2009, Stanichar received a grant from the Augustana Research & Artist Fund (ARAF) to compose the setting, the same year as the bicentennial of Poe’s birth.
"To my knowledge, there was no major art music setting of Poe’s 'The Raven' in the repertoire. Therefore, my setting of the work could potentially be one of only a few settings of this poem, one of the most famous of the American genre," Stanichar said.
