Nov. 19: Northlanders, All-City Jazz Concert
The Department of Performing and Visual Arts will present a jazz concert featuring the Northlanders Jazz Band, under the direction of Mark Isackson, and the All-City High School Jazz Band, under the direction of Dr. Paul Schilf, at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 19, in Kresge Recital Hall.
The Northlanders Jazz Band has performed on stage at JazzFest for the past several years. The Northlanders was founded in 1954 as a student-run organization and, in 1965, Dr. Harold Krueger assumed leadership. Since then, the Northlanders Jazz Band has performed for many campus and community events and has been featured in the annual Jazz on the Upper Great Plains Festival.
The All-City High School Jazz Band began more than 13 years ago and is open to any high school musician in Sioux Falls. This prestigious group gathers once a year for this special concert. The group is sponsored by the Sioux Falls Jazz and Blues Society. The band will consist of approximately 20 students from Sioux Falls Public High Schools, Sioux Falls Christian, Sioux Falls Lutheran High School, and O'Gorman High Schools. The Michael Miller Scholarship for an amount of $1000 will be awarded to one high school ensemble participant; this scholarship allows students to further their musical studies with funding for private lessons or band camp.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and are free to those with a valid Augustana ID. Tickets are available at www.augietickets.com or by calling the Augustana Box Office at 605.274.5320.
