April 18: Band Concert at the Washington Pavilion
The Augustana Band and the Augustana College/Community Band will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, at the Washington Pavilion in downtown Sioux Falls.
Tickets are $12.50 for adults and $7.50 for seniors and are available at www.washingtonpavilion.org.
The concert will feature performances of:
- "Gazebo Fanfare," Chris Donze
- "Toccata for Band," Frank Erickson
- "Emperata Overture," Claude T. Smith
- "Rifle Rangers," Karl L. King, arr. Gene Milford
- "The Gallant Seventh," John P. Sousa, edited by John Bourgeois
- "Fantasia on the Alleluia Hymn," Gordon Jacob, arranged by Douglas Wagner
- "Ritual," Joe Turrin
- "Balkan Dance," Samuel A. Livingston
- "Lark in the Clear Air," Clifton Taylor
- "Rocket," Steve Rouse
The concert will also feature a solo performance by senior McKenzie Block, a Music Education major. A member of the National Association for Music Education, Block has served as the president for Augustana’s Collegiate Chapter. She plays in the Augustana Band, the Augustana Orchestra, Augustana’s Clarinet Chamber group, and the Sioux Falls Municipal Band.
During her time at Augustana, Block has served on the band board, chaired the Augustana Band Festival, was a camp counselor for the Jazz and Blues Festival Jazz Camp. She is currently student teaching 5-12 band at Baltic Schools, and has accepted the position of high school band director at TF Riggs High School in Pierre, S.D., for the fall of 2013.
