As part of the 2013 Viking Days celebrations, the Blue and Gold Gala will recognize five Alumni Achievement Award recipients and one Horizon Award winner. The event begins at at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18, at the downtown Holiday Inn City Centre.

Since 1952, the Augustana Alumni Association has given awards to alumni who exemplify the ideals of Augustana College. Alumni Achievement Awards are presented each year to Augustana graduates who have made outstanding contributions to their fields of endeavor, their communities, and/or their churches. The recipients exemplify the values of the College: Christian Faith, Liberal Arts, Excellence, Community, Service. This year's recipients are: Jeff Fylling '78, Richard Gregerson '57, Linda Hofstad '70, Evan Nolte '65 and Jackie Pederson-Kriens '89.

The Horizon Award is given to recognize young alumni who have quickly demonstrated outstanding vocational achievement, and have provided faithful service to their community and/or church. The recipients must have graduated from Augustana within the last 15 years, excel in their careers, and exemplify one of the values of the College: Christian Faith, Liberal Arts, Excellence, Community or Service. This year's recipient is Nate White '00.

Tickets were $40 and registration has ended.

Also on Friday, Oct. 18, five former Augustana student-athletes, who distinguished themselves in various competitions, will be inducted into the Augustana Athletic Hall of Fame. They are Jon Vik '88, Paula U'Ren '95, Neil Matthiesen '94, Lindsay Voss Wilber '00 and Bill Reitter '77.

The event will also honor Matt Musiel '89 (Ole Odney Award), Les Carson (Lefty Olson Award), and Kent '58 and Judy Morstad (Milt & Clara Harvey Award). Induction activities begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour at the Holiday Inn City Centre Starlite Room. Dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Tickets were $35 for adults, $15 for children and registration has ended.
