Rolf Rudin (b. 1961) is firmly rooted in the German legacy of the past but writes music that presents traditional values wrapped in modernity. His work is epic yet approachable. He is a broad stroke painter of sound whose music is engaging and never fails to enhance the soul while elevating the spirit. He is a truly unique voice and his writing for winds broadens the repertoire in a most important way. Rudin’s Requiem is marked by lush, brilliant textures and flowing melodic lines, a style somewhat reminiscent of Johannes Brahms, Richard Wagner, and Gustav Mahler. Requiem premiered November 12, 2005, Kastelruth/South Tyrol, Italy.
Dr. Christopher Unger will conduct the Requiem, which will include 120 singers and 45 instrumentalists.
The O’Gorman High School Bands are directed by Ben Koch.
