The Augustana Band Presents Final Concert of the Year
The Augustana Band, under the direction of Dr. Christopher Unger, is pleased to announce their final concert of the academic year: “Postcards from Everywhere.” The concert will be held on Friday, May 3, at 7:30 p.m. in Hamre Recital Hall at Augustana University.
The Band is wrapping up an extraordinarily successful year with their 61st annual Augustana Band Festival, a January tour to China, an appearance at the South Dakota Bandmasters Convention, and other performances. Their closing program feature a new piece for electronics and wind ensemble called Echo Chambers by Peter Van Zandt Lane. Lane is a skillful and versatile composer whose music continues to evolve at lightning speed. At every turn, his propulsive, incisive work is beautifully and confidently made. Characterized by driving rhythms, bold harmonic gestures, and whimsical melodies, Mr. Lane's music is as inviting as it is sophisticated.
Another featured selection is by the Icelandic Pop Group Sigor Ros – an avant-rock band from Reykjavík, active since 1994. Known for their ethereal sound and the use of bowed guitar, the band's music incorporates classical and minimal aesthetic elements. The Band will perform a selection entitled Are Batur which has been arranged for winds by David Vickerman.
Additional tunes for the concert include Suite Francaise by Darius Milhaud and Dr. Unger’s arrangement of Voi che sapete for chamber winds and soprano.
Tickets are $10/adults, $5/seniors and are free for students K-12 and those with a valid Augie ID.
