The event is free to military and veteran families, but registration is required.


Organized by Sioux Falls Community Action For Veterans in partnership with Operation Engage America, the Bridging the Gap Festival for Veteran and Military Families is Friday, Jan. 18, at Central Church in Sioux Falls. Augustana University is a sponsor.

  • 5-15 hours of professional development or additional training for educators, counselors, social workers, healthcare providers, human resource professionals, nonprofit representatives, first responders, veteran service organizations, and employers interested in learning more about the Veteran and Military family lifestyle. Runs 12 p.m.-5 p.m.
  • Resource Fair — A One-Stop-Shop that will provide a wide range of resources to ensure that every Veteran and Military Family has the opportunity to become thriving members of society. Food will be served (Register for free tickets). Runs 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m.
  • Family Carnival — Focuses on celebrating Veteran and Military Families through a night devoted to them. Food, entertainment, support and fun activities will ensure our Military community knows we value them. Runs 5:30 p.m.-9 p.m.
  • Living Library: Voices from the Military Culture — Come and chat with our diverse group of “books.” Hosted by Compassionate Sioux Falls and led by SD Humanities Scholar and Augustana alumna Lori Walsh '97, host of SDPB's "In the Moment." 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.
