Nearly 50 art students from 10 regional high schools will display their talents at the Eide/Dalrymple Gallery at Augustana from Thursday, Jan. 9, through Friday, Feb. 7. The closing reception and awards ceremony will take place at 6-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7.

A wide range of mediums will be exhibited, including ceramics, drawing, digital photography, mixed media, painting and printmaking.

“These students have brought all of their technical ability and, most importantly, heart into the creation of these pieces,” notes gallery director Lindsay Twa. “Through this work, and under the guidance of their outstanding teachers, they have learned how to evaluate solutions, make judgments, and use multiple perspectives in their visual solutions. The art classroom is often the last space left that doesn’t privilege rote memorization and standardized evaluation.  We can be heartened by the work that is on display in this gallery.”

The exhibition will be juried by members of the Augustana Art Department, who will be making awards of art supplies. Senior high school artists can also participate in a portfolio review to compete for Augustana pro artis scholarships, worth up to $8,000 over four years. Also as a part of the closing events, the Augustana Art department will hold open studios and hand-on workshops in the studio-classrooms.
