Why We Give: Brian '03 and Crystal '02 Johnson
Meet Brian '03 and Crystal (Peterson) Johnson '02.
Currently living in Omaha, Nebraska, Brian is a risk manager for Kiewit Corporation and Crystal is a marketing/communicaitons and social media manager for Integrated Marketing Solutions. They are parents to three girls, Ava, and twins Aubree and Annelise.
We caught up with them to learn more about why they choose to support Augustana.
Q. How do you give back to Augustana?
A. I have had the privilege to be on the Alumni Council for 6 years. While I gave my time, the opportunity certainly gave me more in return. It has been a very enriching experience reacquainting myself with the Augustana community and traditions after being away in Washington DC. As I transition off the Council, I look forward to becoming a class agent, continuing to cultivate my relationship with Alumni and the institution. As a couple, we always look forward to attending the events in the Omaha and neighboring Nebraska communities.
Q. Why did you choose the perpetual giving option as a way to donate to Augustana?
A. We feel it is important to give back to Augustana, as our experience deeply enhanced our lives and prepared us for our future. And, with young children, we know all too well that the future depends on tomorrow’s youth. We are like most Augustana young families; we have young children and lead a busy lifestyle. Perpetual giving gave us the advantages for the desire to contribute and making it work for our family. This giving option is extremely easy to set up, it allowed us to budget, and it was hassle free with automatic deductions, where we don’t even have to think about it. There are many pressures in today’s world when entering the “real world” after college and starting a family. This options allows our family to give back to Augustana over a period of time, thus reducing the stress and increasing the aspiration to make a difference.
