GroupWise Mobility Server - A better way to get mail and calendar on your mobile device

In the past, you could get your email on your smartphone, but to get your address book or calendar you had to have a Blackberry. Now you do not need to have a Blackberry, we have a system to easily keep your Droid, iPhone or other smartphone in sync with your Groupwise email, calendar and address books.

If you have a Droid or an iPhone that is already set up to receive your Augustana email – you will still want to switch over to this new method. It should be faster for you and lets you sync calendar and address books if you choose.


Android Devices

The set up for Android devices varies depending on your particular phone and also your cell phone provider, you may have to hunt a bit to find exactly where to enter this information.

  1. Make sure you have a working connection to the internet
  2. Find your main “Menu”
  3. Select “Settings”
  4. Next select “Accounts & Sync”
  5. Choose “Add account”
  6. Choose Microsoft Exchange or Activesync or Corporate
  7. Choose “manual setup” if you have a choice
  8. Enter your full email address - example Cheryl.Swanson@augie.edu
  9. Server Address is lynx.augie.edu
  10. Domain – leave it blank
  11. Username – this is your short login - example: cswanson
  12. Password – this is your “normal” Augustana password
  13. Select SSL – some phones will give you a warning message that this is not a trusted site – go ahead and trust it.
  14. Choose what you would like to sync – Mail, Contact and Calendar are available. (You will be able to choose which address books to sync later - for now it takes the book with your name on it)
  15. Click Finish

Your mail and calendar should show up in the default clients on your Android. That will vary from phone to phone. See Mobility Data Synchronizer instructions below to configure exactly which folders and address books sync.

 

iPhone – iPad – iPod Touch

  1. Make sure you have a working connection to the internet
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Choose “Mail, Contacts, Calendars”
  4. Click “Add Account”
  5. Choose “Microsoft Exchange”
  6. Enter your full email address example: Cheryl.Swanson@augie.edu
  7. Domain – leave it blank
  8. Username – this is your short login name example cswanson
  9. Password – this is your “normal” Augustana password
  10. Description – Take out Exchange and enter a new name (Augustana, GroupWise whatever you like)
  11. Next
  12. If you get a failure message click continue
  13. Enter lynx.augie.edu into the Server line
  14. Choose what you would like to sync. Mail, Calendar and Contacts are available
  15. Your mail will now show up on the Mail App on your device. If you already had another mail account set up, you may need to click on the Mailboxes link at the top left to see all your accounts.

Mobility Data Synchronizer

  1. Open FireFox or Internet Exploer and go to https://Lynx.augie.edu:8120/login
  2. Login with your normal Augustana username and password
  3. Click on “Mobility”
  4. Check or uncheck the GroupWise folders you would like to sync with your mobile device
  5. Click “Save Custom Settings”
  6. Go back to the top of the window and click “My Connectors”
  7. Now Choose “GroupWise” from the list
  8. Choose the Address Books that you would like to sync with your mobile device.
  9. In the lower part of the window you can control if the sync is one way or two way. The default is to sync both ways. This lets you make changes on your computer and on your phone and have the address book stay in sync. Engine=GroupWise Connector=mobile device. Think carefully before you change this setting.
