Academy for Seniors Announces Fall Series



Augustana’s Academy for Seniors

has announced the theme for its Fall 2008 series is The Middle East: Past and Present.

The cost is $35 for the semester and includes programs and lunches.

The series opens Wednesday, September 17. Dr. Jeffrey Johnson, assistant professor of history at Augustana, presents Toward a Clash of Civilizations? World War I, the end of the Ottoman Order, and the Legacy of Colonialism in the Middle East.

On Wednesday, October 15, former U.S. Senator James Abourezk speaks on U.S. Foreign Policy in the Middle East.

The fall series concludes Wednesday, November 19, with Dr. Murray Haar, professor of religion/philosophy/classics at Augustana presenting Judaism and the Modern State of Israel.

The sessions begin at 10:00 a.m. with worship in the Chapel of Reconciliation on the Augustana campus. The lecture begins at 10:45 a.m. in the Morrison Commons 3-in-1 room. Lunch is served at 11:45 a.m. The lecture and discussion resume at 12:30 p.m. and continues to 1:30 p.m.
