SIOUX FALLS - Augustana's Athletic Training Education Program (ATEP) has received re-accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) through the 2010-2011 school year.
Augustana's ATEP received initial accreditation from the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in 1999 and was awarded full accreditation through CAAHEP in 2003. The endorsement of obtaining accreditation follows the submission of a very detailed institutional and program self study followed by a three-day on-site evaluation conducted by representatives from CAATE.
Brian Gerry, program director for Athletic Training noted, "Maintaining and achieving CAATE accreditation for our ATEP is a huge accomplishment for our staff, students and HPER department. The commitment and financial support of our College's administration is demonstrated in our facilities and staff, and the integrity and reputation of our didactic and clinical education program is well perceived within the community."
The following general strengths of the ATEP were noted by the site evaluators.
1). The dynamic leadership provided by the program director is evident through all aspects of the ATEP.
2). The strong support of the college administration, physicians and ACIs to the mission of the ATEP.
3). Dedicated administrative assistance provided by the ATEP clerical secretary.
4). Efficient didactic and clinical staff to student ratio.
5). On campus and off campus clinical sites provide excellent opportunities for student experiential learning.
6). The mentor program fosters peer learning across all levels of the curriculum.
7). Medical professionals involvement with didactic and clinical education
8). The highly visible and generous support of the Sanford USD NORTH Center.
