Granskou Award Winners to Create New Cantata for Holy Week

SIOUX FALLS – Dr. James Johnson, professor of music; Dr. Christopher Stanichar, assistant professor of music; and Dr. Richard Swanson, professor of religion/philosophy/classics, are recipients of the 2009 Granskou Award.

Augustana alumni from the era of Augustana President Clemens M. Granskou (1932-1943) (shown right), established an endowed fund to support the annual Granskou Award for professional development. The selection committee accepts proposals from faculty and administrators in alternate years.

Drs. Johnson, Stanichar, and Swanson will take leading roles in the creation and performance of a new cantata for Holy Week. The premier performance is planned for Lent of 2011.
