Augustana Students Selected for SDMEA Honors Recital

SIOUX FALLS – The first South Dakota Music Educators Association (SDMEA) Conference will be held October 29-31 in Rapid City, SD.
Thursday, October 29, has been designated “Collegiate Day.” Students from all South Dakota colleges and universities will share in professional development by attending and participating in clinics, workshops, and seminars pertaining to music education.
Thursday afternoon will also feature the first Honors Recital of student members of MENC (the National Association for Music Education). It is the intent of this recital to showcase the finest collegiate musicians in the state. These student-musicians were selected to perform through a taped audition process.
Four students will be representing Augustana: Chris Haak (Urbandale, IA), bassoon; Malerie Mertz (Chamberlain, SD), voice; Todd Mulder (Worthing, SD), French Horn; and Kristen Meidinger (Aurora, SD), voice.
Dr. Paul Schilf will also represent Augustana. Dr. Schilf is the faculty advisor for the Augustana Chapter of MENC, he is president-elect of SDMEA, and he is a member of the Conference Committee. Dr. Bruce Ammann from Augustana is past president of SDMEA and he is serving as the Exhibit Chair for the 2009 SDMEA Conference.
