Thursday, January 14, 2010
SIOUX FALLS, SD – Two Augustana alumni were among the many American missionaries serving in Haiti at the time of Tuesday’s massive earthquake.
Both Jonathan Larson, class of 2006, and Sarah Thomson, class of 2007, survived the disaster. Larson was inside a building in Port au Prince when it collapsed. His cousin, Ben Larson, did not survive.
Thomson reported she was safe in Jacmel, Haiti. Thomson and Larson are students at Wartburg Theological Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. Both were in Haiti working on January term projects.
On Friday, January 15, at 10:00 a.m. there will be a service for healing and reconciliation at the Chapel of Reconciliation on the Augustana campus. All are invited to offer prayers for all those whose lives have been impacted by the disaster. Haiti officials predict the death toll could reach 500,000.
The Augustana chapel staff will continue to collect offerings and send the proceeds to Lutheran World Relief.
