SIOUX FALLS, SD – Augustana sophomore Ryan Schuetz from Omaha, NE, has been awarded an Air Force Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (AFROTC) scholarship effective with the opening of the 2010 spring semester (February 4).
The Type 2 scholarship awarded Schuetz provides $18,000 a year for tuition/fees, a $350 monthly stipend, and an annual book allowance of $900.
Schuetz is majoring in Government/International Affairs. Following graduation he hopes to receive a pilot’s slot with the Air Force, which would require a 10-year service commitment.
“I hope to become a pilot, but I’m also considering a few other options, such as the newly created Air Liaison Officer,” Schuetz said. “ALOs coordinate airpower with ground units. Intelligence is another area I’m considering.”
Ryan is the son of Donna and Jon Schuetz of Omaha.
The AFROTC scholarship is open to college freshmen and sophomores in any major. According to Augustana’s agreement with South Dakota State University, Schuetz takes his ROTC classes each week at SDSU.
