Dan Schoen Wins Augustana Covenant Award for Excellence

SIOUX FALLS, SD – Dan Schoen, junior history and philosophy major from Maple Grove, Minn., is the recipient of the Augustana Covenant Award for Excellence.
The Covenant Award has become a notable and significant tradition at Augustana. It is presented five times each year, one award for each of the College’s five core values: Christian, Liberal Arts, Excellence, Community, and Service.
Schoen is the recipient of a Trustees Scholarship and this year spoke to students at the Distinguished Scholars Competition. He is a member of the Augustana History Club, was inducted into Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honor society, last year, and was included in the 2010 edition of Who’s Who among students in American Universities and Colleges.
He is the starting center on the Viking football team and is responsible for calling the blocking schemes. As a team member, he has also participated in community service projects.
A Dean’s List student, he was selected to the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference All-Academic Team for the 2009 fall season. His plans include graduate school, where he will pursue a doctorate in Middle Eastern Studies. He is the son of Shelly and Steve Schoen.
