‘8 in 48’ Short Play Festival Set for Sept. 11
The Augustana College Theatre and The Great Plains Dramatist Exchange today announced the “8 in 48” Claire Donaldson Short Play Festival will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11, at Augustana’s Edith Mortenson Center. Admission is free.
Auditions will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, at the Edith Mortenson Center.
The 2010 “8 in 48” short play selections are:
- The Crying Club and Matt Directs Hamlet by Matt Fotis
- Tupperware by Jonathan Josephson
- Whatever I Want by Mark Harvey Levine
- Cry It Out by Jennifer Lankford Long
- Midlands by Jess Martin
- In Sex by Jeff Neuman
- Reboot by Matt Udvari
Founded in honor of the late Claire M. Donaldson, a 2000 graduate of Augustana and a passionate playwright, the Festival features eight previously unproduced 10-minute plays, as well as a selection from Donaldson’s work. Since 2005, the Festival has raised funds to create a Claire Donaldson Scholarship. Carrie Sullivan, the first-ever scholarship recipient, will be introduced at this year’s Festival.
“Claire’s early passing was a great loss to the Augustana community. As a talented young artist, she now has a legacy and we are proud to be a part of this great effort that offers immediate staging opportunities for playwrights across the country,” said Festival Director Julia Bennett.
“As a playwright, I know the importance of presenting your work to an audience. This opportunity goes a step further to involve directors and actors in an intensive, collaborative experience,” said Heidi S. Meyer, an Augustana alumna and Play Selection Coordinator.
Following this year’s Festival, an alumni reunion performance of Brand Name Improv, Augustana’s house improvisation troupe, will be featured and Festival awards will be announced.
