Fighting Hunger and Feeding Hope Basketball Tourney Begins Friday

Augustana College today announced that the 16th annual Fighting Hunger and Feeding Hope Basketball Tournament is scheduled for March 18-20 at the Elmen Center.

Fifty percent of the admission fee benefits local agencies such as Feeding South Dakota. Proceeds will also go to the Elmen Center Recreational Services Department to pay for non-work study staff, weight room equipment and operational costs throughout the year.

Approximately 60 area boys and girls basketball teams from fourth grade through ninth grade have already registered for the event. View the schedule and brackets.

“Through something as simple as the game of basketball, students are learning how to make a difference in the lives of others. Augustana is proud to be part of this tremendous event which instills a sense of responsibility in our children and raises money for those in need,” said Carmen Hecht, a member of the organizing committee.

Ryan Chase will share a message about faith in Christ and sports with players and spectators at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.

In 2009, the event raised $2,800 for Feeding South Dakota and World Vision. In 2010, the event raised $3,186.

Admission costs are:

  • Friday: $3 for adults; $1 for kids K-12
  • Saturday-Sunday: $5 for adults; $2 for kids K-12
