College and Community Orchestra Accepting New Members
Tuesday, August 30, 2011
The Augustana College-Community Orchestra is accepting community and student members for the 2011-2012 season. All orchestral string players are invited to join, including violins, violas, cellos, and basses. New community string players need to play a short audition with music of their choosing. There are also a limited number of positions for orchestral woodwinds, brass, and percussion.
The first rehearsal will be held on Sunday, Sept. 11, at 6:30 p.m. Rehearsals take place on Sunday nights from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in the Humanities Building on the Augustana campus.
The predecessor to the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, the Augustana College-Community Orchestra dates back to the 1920s and is open to students and community members who enjoy playing fine orchestral music in a friendly environment.
The historic Augustana College-Community Orchestra is directed by Dr. Christopher Stanichar, associate professor of music at Augustana.
Interested musicians can contact Dr. Stanichar at 605.274.5233 to schedule an audition.
