NEW ORLEANS – Augustana President Rob Oliver joined presidents from other Lutheran colleges at the Lutheran Educational Conference of North America (LECNA) annual meeting in New Orleans February 4-6, 2012.
The theme for this year’s meeting was “Reconstruction: Preparing Students in Christ for Lives of Meaning in Service.”
At the meeting, attendees reviewed updated comparative alumni research (compiled in December of 2011) which demonstrated that educational effectiveness is the product of student engagement with faculty, peers, programs, and student life. On measure after measure, alumni of Lutheran colleges/universities say they benefitted personally, professionally, spiritually, academically and socially from their college experience.
In addition to discussing the higher education industry, the group also picked up hammers and shovels to help residents still suffering the effects of Hurricane Katrina. On Monday, attendees assisted in rebuilding a family’s home in New Orleans which was destroyed during the storm.
