Augustana Earns Second NSIC/US Bank All-Sports Award
Tuesday, May 22, 2012

BURNSVILLE, Minn. - Augustana is the top athletics program in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference for the second-consecutive season. The College earned the 2011-12 NSIC/US Bank All-Sports Award with 135.5 points, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Minnesota State scored 127.3 points to finish second, and Winona State was third with 105 points.
The Vikings won four NSIC championships on the year, including men's cross country, women's cross country, women's golf and women's tennis. Augustana's women's cross country team went on to win the national championship. The title was the first for the program and the school's second overall team national championship.
The Vikings performed well in other conference sports in which they did not win a title. Women's basketball, softball, men's indoor track and field and women's indoor track and field finished second. Wrestling, men's outdoor track and field and women's outdoor track and field were third. Baseball and men's basketball tied for fourth. Men's golf finished sixth, and soccer tied for sixth. Football and volleyball were seventh.
Since joining the NSIC in 2008-09, Augustana has never finished lower than second.
The winner of each title in a conference-sponsored championship receives points totaling the number of teams in that sport plus one. The next-place finisher receives points totaling the number of teams less the number of places from first place. Ties in the standings at any level result in the totaling of points and the distribution of points equally. Indoor and outdoor track and field are computed at half the total points as listed in the aforementioned categories.
