Hugh Weber Named Director of Continuing Education
Augustana College today announced that Hugh Weber has been named Director of Continuing Education. In his new role, Weber will be responsible for designing and developing continuing education workshops, regional conferences and other opportunities for lifelong learning in the community.
Currently, Augustana offers a number of continuing education and distance learning courses that count for undergraduate, graduate and teacher certification/re-certification credit. The College also hosts conferences that include the “Lighting the Way Autism Conference,” an annual meeting on Autism Spectrum Disorder in our communities, the South Dakota ASL (American Sign Language) Immersion event and the Midwest Conference on Deaf Education.
A native of northeastern South Dakota and a graduate of Swarthmore College and George Washington University, Weber has nearly 15 years of experience in messaging strategy, leadership consulting and community management. He currently serves as owner and executive curator for Storyline, a communications agency providing research, online management and strategic leadership and counsel. He also serves as founder, curator and host of the OTA Sessions, a series of experiences and collaborations focused on connecting creative catalysts and community change-makers in Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota. Previously, he was president and owner of CommonSense Connections, a technology consulting firm for political campaigns, corporate clients and nonprofit groups.
Weber was the organizer and host for the first-ever TEDxSioux Falls, a program designed to share ideas, rouse creativity and inspire good things. Themed, “Extra[Ordinary] Lives," the event featured a series of speakers with South Dakota ties who presented “stories worth sharing.” He is currently writing “Dude to Dad,” a book based on his website for dudes, dads, and dudes about to become dads, which has more than 85,000 online followers. The book will be released in early 2013 by Familius Publishing.
“At Augustana, we’re committed to helping students of all ages explore, discover and create – that includes our traditional undergraduate students and a growing population of adults who define themselves as life-long learners,” said Dr. Mike Wanous, associate academic dean. “Hugh’s creative abilities and experience in program development make him a perfect fit for this position. We’re excited to have him on board.”
During his career, Weber has developed training and content for the South Dakota Community Foundation, South Dakota Telecommunications Association, South Dakota Housing Development Authority, University of Sioux Falls, Augustana College, University of South Dakota, Wingspread Young Voters Conference, National YR Convention, National Campaign Management Seminars, Harvard University’s Young Voters Conference, RNC National Convention Sessions and the South Regional Leadership Conference.
He has served as a resource and thought leader for the Washington Post, Pregnancy Magazine, Glamour Magazine, Argus Leader, Associated Press, Philadelphia Inquirer, Wisconsin Public Radio and numerous South Dakota weekly publications.
