Christensen Named South Dakota Librarian of the Year

Kay Christensen, cataloger/government documents librarian at Augustana's Mikkelsen Library, has been named the 2012 South Dakota Library Association’s Librarian of the Year.

The award recognizes a member of the South Dakota Library Association (SDLA) who has made an outstanding contribution to affect and improve library service in a South Dakota community, school or university/college.

Christensen’s service to the South Dakota library community includes her terms as the 2009-10 South Dakota Library Association president, as well as chair of the Academic-Health-Special section of the Association.

"Known for her 'enormous capacity for empathy,' Christensen has a passion for providing excellent library service. For nearly 18 years she has strengthened the Mikkelsen Library by identifying new ways of doing things to save time, resources, or frustration. Where others might identify challenges, she works tirelessly to discover solutions. The libraries, librarians and the users SDLA serves are all beneficiaries of Christensen’s 'tremendous commitment' to the library profession," the SDLA said.
