Student Vocalists Engel, Winkler and Hoffman Recognized

Three Augustana students have been recognized for their vocal performances.
Senior Maren Engel, Owasso, Okla., a voice student of Dr. Lisa Grevlos, won the state Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Young Artist Vocal Competition and will now compete at the regional level at the West Central MTNA convention, set for January 11-13, at the University of Kansas, in Lawrence, Kan. Engel's 35-minute competition program consisted of arias and artsongs spanning six languages: English, Italian, German, French, Norwegian and Russian. She was accompanied by Augustana alumnua Deanna Wehrspann '80.
Senior Ben Winkler, Cottage Grove, Minn., a voice student of Dr. Russell Svenningsen, won the South Dakota Music Teacher's Association (SDMTA) Collegiate II Voice Competition last Thursday at the SDMTA's annual voice competition, held at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D. Winkler and Wehrspann, his collaborative pianist, performed five selections together including works by RV Williams, Handel, Scarlatti and Schumann.
- Senior Ali Hoffman, Sioux Falls, a voice student of Cheryl Koch, took second place in the SDMTA Collegiate II Voice Competition.
