Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" at Augustana's second annual Reading Marathon hosted by the Alpha Xi Mu chapter of Sigma Tau Delta (the international honors society for English majors and minors). Jackie Payne has been named director of development. In her new role, Payne will be responsible for raising private support for the student, faculty and programming needs of the College and for identifying ways to build and foster strong connections between alumni and friends and Augustana.

Kay Christensen, cataloger/government documents librarian at Augustana's Mikkelsen Library, has been named the 2012 South Dakota Library Association’s Librarian of the Year in recognition of her outstanding contributions to affect and improve library service in a South Dakota community, school or university/college.
Seniors Maren Engel, Ben Winkler and Ali Hoffman have been recognized for their vocal performances. Engel won the state Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Young Artist Vocal Competition; Winkler and Hoffman took first and second places respectively at the South Dakota Music Teacher's Association (SDMTA) Collegiate II Voice Competition.

Dr. Janet Philipp, EdD, RN, has been named Chair of Augustana's Nursing Department. In her new role, Philipp provides executive leadership for the Department, which has a storied, 72-year history of producing top-caliber nurses known for their excellence in patient care, leadership in health care institutions and nursing education, and a commitment to advancing the art and science of nursing through research.
