Augustana senior Hannah Norem, a religion, French and government & international affairs major from Houston, Texas, will serve as the senior speaker for the 2018 commencement exercises, set for Saturday, May 19, at the Sioux Falls Arena.
Kaeti Hinck '07 has been named a 2019 Nieman Fellow by the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard University. Hinck, who serves as an editor for The Washington Post, is one of only 27 journalists selected for the prestigious fellowship, which includes two semesters of study at Harvard University.
Augustana alumna Ruthellen "Elle" (Tornberg) Anderson '14 recently received a prestigious National Institutes of Health F30 National Research Service Award (NRSA), an honor recognizing promising predoctoral students during their mentored dissertation research and clinical training. We caught up with Anderson, who is in her fourth year of an MD/PhD program and is working for Sanford Research, to learn more about her work and the award.
Augustana has received a six-figure grant from the Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies, a nonprofit dedicated to helping society, the arts and the environment. The grant will allow the University to launch a campus-wide strategic plan to integrate sustainability into aspects such as curriculum, co-curriculum initiatives, operations, and identity.
Augustana senior Wyatt Dickson has been awarded the prestigious Harold Spitznagel Medal for Achievement in Art, the highest award presented by the Augustana art department to student-artists who demonstrate the highest standards of excellence in all their artistic endeavors throughout their Augustana careers.
In 2012, Dr. Emil Knapp retired from a 40-year career of teaching in Augustana's mathematics department. After his retirement, he continued to tutor, taught a course, and wrote and presented a new research paper.
Then, he decided to do something entirely new: Art.
